ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS
The Fish & Game will be selling raffle tickets
in front of the Torrington WalMart on Sunday November 9th from 11
a.m. until 4 p.m. each day. We could use a hand. This is a very
easy way to get in some or all of your work hours. To help out,
please contact Tom Costa at (203) 768-0183.
The Pheasant Liberation Schedule and Liberation Map will be mailed
to each member today. Look to receive it in the next couple of days.
Most important !!! The Rifle Range/Sighting In Range
is NOT OPEN FOR SHOOTING. The range committee has been working on
the range and testing it, but the officers and membership still
need to approve the range usage and rules. In addition, with hunting
seasons in progress (leftover pheasants and archery deer) plus the
general season opening on Saturday, shooting on the range could
be potentially dangerous to anyone hunting beyond the backstop.
The range will remain closed for the season.
IF YOU ARE CAUGHT SHOOTING ON THE RANGE, YOU ARE SUBJECT TO DISMISSAL
FROM THE CLUB !!!
Second:
Tomorrow, Wednesday October 15th, is the last evening for skeet
shooting. Starting on Sunday, October 19th, skeet shooting will
be held on Sunday mornings from 8:30 until noon. In addition, the
Turkey Shoot Committee is holding shoots on Sunday mornings from
9 until noon. Plan on coming up and shooting a round of skeet, or
a couple of shots for a turkey, or both. Remember, Sunday hunting
starts at noon on Club Owned Lands only. These include the Club
proper, the pond and Soapstone. No hunting on Sundays at Klug's,
Zordan's, Hurrey's Dip or Wright's Farm. In addition, Sunday hunting
is for pheasants only. No other game may be taken.
1) This Wednesday, October 8th, the Rifle Range
Committee will be conducting live firing tests at the range facility
between 4 and 5 p.m. If you are going to be working with your dogs,
bow hunting, scouting etc., please plan accordingly.
2) The Turkey Shoot Committee will hold its first shoot of the season
this Sunday, October 12th, starting at 8 a.m. and ending at noon.
(Junior Hunting Day will be in progress at the same time.) The Committee
could use a little more help. This is a pretty easy way to get in
your work hour obligation. If you can give them a hand during the
next few Sundays, give Chairman Rick Pergola a call at (860) 309-1826
to sign up.
3) The Pheasant Committee has designated area captains for the upcoming
season. If you wish to participate in stocking a particular area,
give the captain a call to set up your schedule. They are as follows:
Hurry's Dip Dave Meharg (860) 484-9016
Klug's Farm Joe Perugini (203) 525-4194
The Pond Tom Accuosti (860) 274-9475
Soapstone John La Guttuta (860) 567-3803 or (860) 489-9053
The Club Sam Calabrese (203) 232-0992
Saturday Afternoon Coordinator Marshall Bertoldi (860) 489-7484
or (860) 485-5073 cell
Tickets for the Fish & Game's annual raffle
are at the printers and will soon be sent out to each member in
the mail. As you know, each member is obligated to sell one book
of tickets for the raffle. However, if you are able to sell more
than one book of tickets, contact Raffle Chairman Tony Rinaldi at
(203) 879-4855, or by e-mail at sky82hawk@yahoo.com at your earliest
convenience. That way, Tony can send you the extra book(s) with
the mailing that will go out soon, saving time and postage.
Turkey Shoot Chairman Rick Pergola is putting together the schedule
for the fall season. The shoots will be held on Sundays in October
and November, and are both a lot of fun and a good money maker for
the Club. Rick needs members who can give him a hand. Contact him
at (860) 309-1826, or by e-mail at rpergola1@optonline.net.
The Habitat Committee intends to burn some of the
brush piles that are in the new clear cut east of the skeet field.
When the dates are scheduled, we will send out an e-mail apprising
the membership.
On Sunday, October 12th, the Fish & Game will host a Junior
Hunting Day, beginning at 8 a.m. The Club will be closed to all
other activities on that date. If you have a decent bird dog and
would like to give it a little exercise, we could use a few extra
dogs that day. There will be food for all of the kids and volunteers,
courtesy of the NW CT Sportsmen's Council.
If you reload shotgun shells, you are aware of
the high price of lead shot. At present, if you can find it at all,
a 25 pound bag of hard shot retails for about $50. Yesterday, I
was contacted by Chris Marino, who is the owner of Autumn Gun Works
in Goshen. He informed me that if enough people are interested in
purchasing shot, he can place a large quantity order that will allow
him to retail it at about $39 per bag. However, he will not place
an order unless he is reasonable certain that it will be sold. If
you have any interest in purchasing shot, please let me know ASAP.
It will be magnum (hard) target grade shot avaiable in sizes 7 1/2,
8 and 9. Your expression of interest will not bind you to a purchase,
but please don't respond unless you are reasonable certain that
you will buy what you request.
If you are interested, let me know how many bags you would like,
as well as the size shot requested. I told Chris that I will let
him know after the weekend about the response that I get. Thanks.
If anyone has any expertise in carpet installation,
please contact Sam Calabrese at either oph.sam@sbcglobal.net, or
by phone at (203) 232-0992. The Club's rental house needs to have
some carpeting replaced. It's a good chance for work hours.
We have been experiencing a problem with members
at the trout pond not having a current Club sticker on their vehicle.
Some have last year's sticker (the blue one) which has now expired;
others have no sticker at all. This makes the job of patrolling
the pond, and the rest of our property, very difficult for the Club
sheriffs. Please make sure that you have a current (yellow) sticker
displayed. If you need a new sticker, or a second one for your other
car, you can get one from Charlie Gandarillas, the TF&G Secretary.
Contact him by phone at (203) 879-4324, or by e-mail at cgandarillas@AEP.US.
A replacement sticker costs $ 1.00, almost half of which is spent
mailing it to you.
In addition, please be certain to read the rules pertaining to fishing
the trout pond. A number of violations have been reported recently,
including members using two rods at a time, members fishing with
live bait, members not signing in before fishing, etc.
There has been some confusion regarding the prohibition
of the use of "LIVE BAIT" in the pond. By "LIVE BAIT"
we mean SHINERS. All other forms of living bait such as worms, night
crawlers, meal worms, wax worms, mousies, perch bugs, crickets,
etc. can be used.
The only other bait that is prohibited is CORN. We hope that this
clarifies the rule.
Also, see events
page for information on the skeet field and the trout pond.
